Communication is Golden is a speech and language pediatric practice that serves infants, children, and teens. We understand that each child and family has unique circumstances and needs, so we offer individualized treatment plans with the goal of helping children maximize their communication potential. Our goal is to empower children with the skills they need to communicate effectively and confidently. We believe that every child has the ability to achieve their full communication potential and are here to help them on that journey.

Communication is Golden is owned by Janel Sweeney, formerly Janel Golden (get the name? :)  Janel is a certified member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to practice speech language pathology in the state of Colorado with 13+ years of experience.

 

Janel received her bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008. She received her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Saint Louis University in 2010.

 

She has worked with the pediatric population in a variety of settings including public schools, outpatient clinics, home health, early intervention, and hospitals. Janel specializes in working with children with expressive and receptive language delays and disorders, mild to severe speech delays and disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, fluency disorders, and social communication disorders. Janel is PROMPT trained and is experienced working with AAC devices. 

 

Communication is Golden was created by Janel in 2023 to provide support to families in the mountain community.  She strives to provide a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for families so that they can access the speech and language support they need without having to leave the mountain community.

 

Outside of work, Janel enjoys gardening, being outside, baking, reading, and spending time with her family.

Consultation

We offer a free 30 minute consultation to discuss your child's current level of speech, language and development. The information provided will be used to make recommendations for the next steps. Together we will come up with a plan to help your child reach their speech and language goals.

Evaluation

Our evaluations assess a variety of skills to identify potential areas of difficulty. We offer evaluations for language delays and disorders, speech delays and disorders, pragmatic language, and fluency. We use standardized tools to assess these skills, and the results are compiled into a comprehensive report. This report will be used to guide the treatment plan going forward.

Therapy

At our Speech Language Therapy practice, we provide evidence-based therapy tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. Our sessions combine effective, research-based interventions with activities that are both engaging and fun, while also ensuring that parents and caregivers are an integral part of the process. Our goal is to help each child achieve their communication objectives in a positive and supportive environment.

FAQ

How do I get started?

Getting started with our speech and language therapy practice is easy. We are currently accepting new clients and are excited to help your child reach their communication goals. To begin, simply reach out to us via phone or email, and we will assist you in scheduling a free 30 minute consultation. During this consultation, we will gather information about your child's speech and language needs and answer any questions you may have about our services. After the initial consultation, we will work with you to schedule an evaluation for your child. We will assess your child's speech and language skills using standardized and informal tools and develop a personalized treatment plan based on their specific needs. Once the evaluation is complete, we will work with you to schedule therapy sessions that fit into your schedule.

How long are therapy sessions? 

Sessions are typically 30-45 minutes in length. Clients are seen anywhere from 1-3 times per week based on the child's needs.

Do you take insurance? 

At this time, we are able to accept private pay, Cigna, and Medicaid.

 

Payment is due upon the receipt of services. We are able to provide superbills at any time for families who wish to submit invoices for services to alternate insurances. Superbills can be submitted by a family to their insurance to request reimbursement for services. 

We have pending applications with some private insurance providers. If you wish to use insurance, please inform us of your provider in order to check participation.

Where are you located? 

Our practice is conveniently situated adjacent to Evergreen Lake at Lakepoint Center, sharing the parking lot with EverBean, Willow Creek, and Coal Mine Dragon.
